Governor Phil Scott Kicks Off Vermont’s Sugaring Season at Pure Gold Sugaring
As winter’s grip begins to loosen in Vermont, the sap begins to run in the Northeast Kingdom. This year, Caledonia Maple Association member Kurt Solinsky, proudly celebrated the annual ceremonial tree tapping at his family’s sugaring operation, Pure Gold Sugaring in Sutton, Vermont. Governor Phil Scott joined local sugar makers to officially kick off the season on March 3rd.
For the Solinsky family, this tradition runs deep. Pure Gold Sugaring, owned and operated by Kurt Solinsky, is a fourth-generation sugarhouse with a legacy of producing some of Vermont’s finest maple syrup. With over 9,600 taps nestled in the rolling hills of Sutton, the family’s sugaring operation embodies the dedication and craftsmanship that define Vermont’s maple industry.
Although the cold temperatures on the day of the ceremony kept the sap from flowing, it was still a sweet celebration!
The annual ceremonial tree tapping is more than just a symbolic event—it is a tribute to the generations of families who have poured their hearts into this craft. It is a celebration of tradition, community, and the sweet reward of hard work.
Thank you, Kurt, for sharing your love and dedication of the craft with our local community!
Happy sugaring season!
